March 2025 Message from Rev. Gavin Carpenter
Dear Friends When I wrote in January, there was a spring in my step and all the optimism of the New Year. Whilst I remain optimistic about all that God will do in and through our church, I am also aware of the political turmoil around the world at this time. I don’t know what will happen in these coming months, what the gains and losses in the world will be. Yet I know that God would have us pray,…
January 2025 Message from Rev. Gavin Carpenter
Dear Friends I look forward to this New Year with hope, and I am reminded of the words from the prophet Isaiah, ‘see I am doing a new thing among you’, (Isaiah 43:19). Remember, it wasn’t so long ago that we studied this verse and thought about what it might mean for us as a congregation and this year we’ll continue to follow the new paths where God is leading us. I hope that it’s not trite to remind us…
Advent & Christmas 2024
Christmas Giving 2024 This year, as always, we will be collecting food and toiletries for the Epsom and Ewell Food Bank. Our collection day is set for December 8th, allowing time for these essential items to be distributed before Christmas. In addition to food donations, we’ll be gathering financial contributions to support Tearfund’s Christmas appeal. More details on this appeal will be shared in an upcoming December service. Let’s come together to make this Christmas season a little brighter for…
November 2024 Message from Rev. Gavin Carpenter
Dear Friends Throughout November and December winter fully sets in, it gets cold and dark. Nevertheless, these months are peppered with so much to look forward to, from fireworks to Christmas. When I was a child and Christmas was on the horizon, I’d scour the heavy Littlewoods catalogue, matching product to price, finding that realistically priced present. I can’t imagine any child doing that now, instead you might find your ‘virtual’ amazon trolly full of your child’s (or partner’s) stuff,…
September 2024 Message from Rev. Gavin Carpenter
Dear Friends It’s September, which means some of us will feel busy until the 27th December! September marks the beginning of a new academic year. For some it will bring a fresh start, bustle and hard work, this is to be celebrated. For the Christian, this sense of new ventures should be celebrated but we must be careful to retain our devotional life. I enjoy the brief story of Martha and Mary welcoming Jesus to their house in Luke 10:38-42,…
Religion or Relationship – a meditation
Whilst awake early in the morning one night, our Lord was inspiring me to meditate upon the Two R’s in our Christian walk. It helped me to see some things the way He does. Praise His Name. I pray that this simple Truth may help others the way it helped me. Choosing one or the other can have quite a different impact on our lives. Religion or Relationship What do we choose to follow? Religion, which guides you under striving…
Summer 2024 Message from Rev. Gavin Carpenter
Dear Friends I hope that you are well and enjoying the long (and sometimes warm) summer days. I was reading the book of Revelation recently and pondering the early verses in chapter five. It’s intense, heavenly throne rooms, scrolls and seven seals, powerful stuff. Yet what caught my attention was the picture of Christ in those verses. The Apostle John wrote Revelation whilst suffering exile to the Greek isle of Patmos; in his isolation he saw heaven opened. Seeing heaven,…

Hub Project – May 2021 Update
Hub Project – May Update There is real interest in the project as the work progresses. I’ve seen so many people standing looking at the display boards on site that illustrate the completed project. Even my hair dresser commented that the building looked impressive and so good for Worcester Park… giving an opportunity to say how we planned to use the building to be at the heart of the community. Thank you for all the prayers asking God to help…

The roof tiles from one side of the main hall are…
Hub Project – March 2021 Update
Hub Project – Construction to start After a number of anticipated site starts, our appointed contractor will take possession of the site and begin the construction of Phase 3 of The Hub on 8th March, nearly one year later than we all initially expected. We have waited patiently for God’s timing rather than ours, for the project to start. We’ll be providing monthly updates about the work on site. Seeing a building being constructed and all the ideas coming to…
Hub Project
WPBC was formed in 1890, and has been at its current premises in The Avenue (opposite Worcester Park Station) since the 1950s. Although there have been a couple of additions to the buildings down the years, the bulk of the buildings date from the 50s. As well as meeting for all-age Christian worship and teaching on Sundays and some weekdays, the church offers an extensive range of services each week to its church family and the wider community, including a…
Why Being Part of a Connect Group is Good
Why Connect Groups? From its earliest days, the church has met together, gathering in both larger settings as well as in smaller groups (Acts 2: 42-47). Both settings are important and complement each other. Join a Connect Group? Joining a Connect Group is one of the best ways to get involved in life at Worcester Park Baptist Church family network. Here at WPBC we encourage a deeper sense of belonging and helping one another in “walking in the footsteps of Christ”.…
