Hub Project – May Update

There is real interest in the project as the work progresses. I’ve seen so many people standing looking at the display boards on site that illustrate the completed project. Even my hair dresser commented that the building looked impressive and so good for Worcester Park… giving an opportunity to say how we planned to use the building to be at the heart of the community. Thank you for all the prayers asking God to help the relationship with the contractor be a positive one. It has been excellent so far.

We will be seeing the footprint of the hub emerging over the coming month as foundations get cast.

The excavation of the area to be occupied by The Hub started on 26th March. The walls & windows to the main hall and former toilet area have been removed.
Roof tiles removed, new membrane installed and temporary ties in place to stop existing trusses spreading.
Existing roof joists are propped enabling old toilet, kitchen and office walls to be removed.
50s and 70s brickes have been carefully removed and cleaned for reuse later in the project.
Removing bricks for reuse later in the project.
The incoming gas main has been moved from the side of the main hall to a new meter.
Main hall wall and windows have been removed. View towards what will become the Hub from the platform with the sliding doors open… imagine the size of the congregation that we will be able to accommodate for our Carol services!
Openings that are no longer needed are being infilled with block-work toothed into existing walls.
Look no walls.. Site Manager, David Morris, inspects the works with our minister, Gavin.
Main hall windows & walls removed to allow new foundations to be constructed to enable the steel columns at each end of the span, and a very large beam to be installed across the opening to support the roof and Hub structure.
Our temporary entrance being used by our new Baby Support Groups and others, has a floor and roof with access to toilets and kitchenette.
