Hub Project – March 2021 Update

Hub Project – Construction to start

After a number of anticipated site starts, our appointed contractor will take possession of the site and begin the construction of Phase 3 of The Hub on 8th March, nearly one year later than we all initially expected. We have waited patiently for God’s timing rather than ours, for the project to start. We’ll be providing monthly updates about the work on site.

Construction site is now fenced and temporary facilities are starting to arrive.

Seeing a building being constructed and all the ideas coming to fruition, particularly after a long period of prayer, fundraising and preparation is always a very exciting time. As most building projects are unique and our project involves a new build extension, re-purposing areas, refurbishment and working on a site, where we hope and intend to hold activities in rooms that are generally unaffected by the work. There are bound to be some challenges as we seek to open our premises to use the available rooms as lockdown ends.

For the many who have not been to the Church site recently, you will see from the photo that the site now has wire mesh fencing surrounding what will be the building site, and that there has been a delivery of new blue containers with some toilets and a small kitchenette – there are more to come. When we are able to open the remainder of the building again there will be a pedestrian entrance on The Avenue at the garden end on the left-hand side as you look at the church site. Our contractor will use the main entrance and have possession of virtually all the car park.

During the last month we had virtual meetings with the proposed cladding, roofing and curtain walling contractors. The contractor has also opened up the Main Hall ceiling to enable their engineer to design the substantial temporary propping of the roof, to enable the wall between the Main Hall and what will be the new Hub space to be demolished and a large beam installed, together with the sliding folding wall later in the contract.

The contractor’s compound with fencing and some temporary facilities delivered.

I know many of you will all be eager to see how the works are progressing. Unfortunately, please note that no unauthorised access to the building site is permitted by anyone from WPBC for health and safety reasons. We will keep you informed of progress.

Please pray for safety of the on-site workers and for smooth logistics for the delivery of materials as the build commences.

You can find out more details about the new facilities at http://wpbc.org.uk/hub-project.
